TGIF guys! Kicking off this Labor Day Weekend with a new series that I’ve been wanting to do for a while here on the blog – Friday Fives! The idea is simple: On Fridays I’m going to share with you five things currently on my mind. They could be items I’m loving, emotions I’m feeling, how I deal with certain situation, etc. Anything, really! I just wanted to connect with you more and figured, why not have fun doing it? 🙂

For this first installment we’ll keep it basic. If you don’t know me that well, or at all, here are the 5 things you should most definitely know:

1. I’m a third culture kid

Third culture kid (TCK) or third culture individual (TCI) are terms used to refer to children raised in a culture other than their parents’ (or the culture of the country given on the child’s passport, where they are legally considered native) for a significant part of their early development years.” – Wikipedia

Before settling down in NYC, I was always on the move growing up. Born and raised in Taiwan, received secondary Western education in Shanghai, went to Boston for college and then lived in California, Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively post college. Constantly moving was taxing, but the most challenging part had to be the feeling of not fitting in anywhere. I couldn’t identify with a particular group and often didn’t know what to say when someone asked me where’s home, or when would be the next time I see my family. I did genuinely enjoy, however, the opportunity to travel and meet new people. To be independent and responsible for myself at an early age, and to be embracive of other cultures and traditions.

Everyday I’m incredibly grateful for my parents’ decision 20+ years ago uprooting me from Taiwan. Because of that moment, my life was forever changed and I eventually found myself in NYC where being different is celebrated. Today, I can finally proudly say that as a TCK, I love my uniqueness and have zero desire to fit in ✌?

2. I’m a reformed introvert

Oh boy. My introversion used to be so bad that my boy crush back in 7th grade thought I was a mute. My body would freeze and I couldn’t get a word out every time he tried to make conversations. Obviously at 30, I’m a lot more normal these days (hence “reformed”), but I still prefer my quiet time over big parties and having select close-knit relationships vs. large network of friends. Sometimes being an introvert has its advantages: we’re a lot more observant, thoughtful, and sometimes creative since we’re constantly in touch with our thoughts. And thanks to the internet, I now have a place to share my creativity with you guys – I ver much consider that a win, win 🙂

3. I’m a huge dog person

Not exaggerating when I say I prefer dogs over human any day… They’re just so much more pleasant to be around ? I grew up with dogs, and while I also like cats (most animals, really), my allergy sadly prevents me from going anywhere near them. We don’t have any fur baby at the moment but will try to dog sit every chance we get.

4. I met my soul mate 13 years ago

Craaaaazy, right? On a fateful day in June, 2004, hubby and I met while touring the college that I ended up attending. We dated long distance – Philly to Boston then NYC to Asia – for the majority of our relationship until I moved back to NYC 6 years ago. It’s pretty surreal to think that at 30, I’ve been with the same person for more than a third of my life, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world. We grew up together, live through the good and bad together, and I can’t wait for us to grow old together. Besides, trust me when I say that if you’ve found yourself an #instagramhusband or #instagramboyfriend, he’s a keeper 🙂

5. Blogging is not my full time job!

Most of you know this already. I work full time in the financial industry and part time on WID as my personal passion project. While there are no immediate plans to change that in the foreseeable future, as the saying goes, anything is possible!

This outfit look so chic and edgy! And those shoes really add color and fun to the neutral shades of the outfit.
